The core idea

What does "dual use" actually mean?

Dual-use technology has one purpose in everyday life, and a second purpose in defense or crisis response.

Take an autonomous drone: it delivers supplies and inspects infrastructure day to day, and switches to reconnaissance the moment there's a crisis. Space, AI, quantum and microelectronics work the same way - you'll see how once you pick a track, next.

Civilian use

Everyday job.

Delivers medical supplies to hard-to-reach areas and inspects wind turbines, bridges and pipelines.

Dual-use / defense

Crisis job.

The same drone switches to reconnaissance and keeps watch over critical infrastructure when something goes wrong.

Why now.

Europe needs its own defense capability, the Baltic's cables and infrastructure need protecting, and civilian tech is increasingly built to do both jobs at once.

Tracks aren't exclusive - combine two or more if your project sits between domains (e.g. a drone with a quantum-secure link is fair game).

Track 01

Work on the systems that keep an eye on the ground from orbit and connect people when nothing else does — from satellite communication to early warning and Earth observation.

AI

Track 02

Build models that make sense of signals and images fast enough to matter - for medical diagnostics one day, threat detection or cyber defense the next.

Drones & Robotics

Track 03

Design autonomous systems that move, sense and act on their own - underwater, in the air or on the ground — for logistics, inspection or reconnaissance.

Quantum

Track 04

Push into cryptography and sensing that stays secure even against tomorrow's computers - from post-quantum encryption to ultra-sensitive detection.

Design the hardware everything above eventually runs on - from AI-assisted chip design to open hardware and manufacturing-ready layouts. No prior chip experience needed: the track opens with a hands-on bootcamp that gets you up to speed before you touch a schematic. 3 selected projects get manufactured for free - from design straight to a real, produced chip.

Do I need a team? +

No - you can join a team on-site. Coming with your own crew is fine too.

I'm a beginner, can I keep up? +

Yes. Tracks welcome all levels, and Chipathon opens with a bootcamp so no prior chip-design experience is needed.

What language is the event in? +

Polish and English - all sessions and materials are bilingual.

How long does it run? +

48 hours, non-stop.

Is there somewhere to sleep? +

Yes - a sleep room (bring your own mat and sleeping bag) plus a quieter library workspace.
